Monday, March 28: Pound the Park
Start the week off right with this full-body cardio and conditioning class at Curtis Hixon Park (600 N Ashley Dr., 33602). Held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., the class is free and uses the Ripstix, a lightly weighted exercise drumstick.
Tuesday, March 29: Last Day to Visit the Pinta and Niña
Visit replicas of Columbus’ ships, the Pinta and Niña, at the Tampa Convention Center before they depart early Wednesday morning. Tampa Bay is one of many port stops for the ships, which travel together as a “sailing museum” educating passengers on the history of the caravel and New World explorers. The ships are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $6 for students 5-16, with children 4 and under getting in free.
Thursday, March 31 to Friday, April 1: Pulitzer Centennial Celebration
The Pulitzer Prizes, awarding the best in American journalism each year, celebrate their 100th anniversary this April. In honor of the centennial, Columbia University, the sponsor of the prizes, has arranged events throughout the country celebrating the awards’ history. St. Petersburg’s Poynter Institute (801 3rd St S, 33701) hosts the first of the events, with a focus on social justice and inequality. The kickoff starts Thursday at 7 p.m. and with events through Friday afternoon (full schedule here).
Wednesday, March 30 to Sunday, April 3: Gasparilla International Film Festival
The tenth annual Gasparilla Film Festival, sponsored by Suncoast Credit Union, takes to the screen this week. Expect a variety of films, industry panels and workshops and other special events held at different venues throughout Tampa. The festival’s opening night film, “Eye in the Sky”, stars Helen Mirren, Aaron Paul and Alan Rickman, and will be screened at 7:30 p.m. at the Tampa Theatre (711 N Franklin St., 33602).
