The eerie experience of Busch Gardens’ Howl-O-Scream is not for everyone.

Though the park hosted other spooky events in previous years, Busch Garden featured its annual “Howl-O-Scream” for the first time in 2000. Ever since its debut, the event has gained increasing popularity and Floridians and tourists of all ages have enjoyed the haunted houses and spook-tacular shows. However, Howl-O-Scream isn’t the only way to get into the spirit of the season. Here are some local alternatives:

“A Nightmare on Franklin Street” at the Tampa Theatre

Enjoy some classic Halloween films like “Friday the 13th” and “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” in Tampa’s historic theatre.

They say it changes when the sun goes down around here; see what all  the rage is about when the ghosts come out to play.

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay Pumpkin Patch

Jack-O’-Lanterns are a lot more fun when profits from the purchase of the pumpkins benefit puppies.

“Creatures of the Night” at Lowry Park Zoo

The former home of child-friendly “Zoo Boo,” Lowry Park Zoo shows visitors the nighttime habits of their most exciting animal species.

Harvestmoon Farms Corn Maze

Though it may be just over an hour away, the Harvestmoon Farms Corn Maze provides a fun bonding experience for families and friend groups alike.
