Here’s something to 'shake' up your weekend:

The beloved NYC casual restaurant chain opened its door up in Tampa for the first time earlier this week in Midtown Tampa as one of the more anticipated retail openings of the area.

Shake Shack most popular for its burgers, frozen custard and shakes, and drawing in a long line of people. Likely due to it just opening four days ago, the wait to get in and order food took about 15 minutes. Seating is offered both indoors and outdoors, but both areas were filled up quickly. Once inside, customers can place orders over a kiosk by the door.

Its burgers are the most popular item for a reason. After ordering the mediocre-tasting Chick'n Shack, a very basic and boring chicken sandwich, my friend’s SmokeShack burger tasted far better. The addition of cherry peppers to a bacon cheeseburger added a fun kick to what would normally be a plain order. There’s an option to make your burger a double, but a single was filling enough.

Burgers and fries are a matched set and I’m disappointed to say that the fries at Shake Shack weren’t exactly fulfilling. I expected something a little more fun with the Bacon Cheese Fries, but all I got was over-salted crinkle-cut fries topped with half melted cheese and cold bacon bits. Definitely not worth the $5. Don’t go the extra mile with your fries and stick to the regular ones.

Since it was a hot day, it felt fitting adding a milkshake to my order. The chocolate shake wasn’t incredibly life-changing and kind of runny when I got it, but it did it’s job of being the sweet in my already savory meal. The frozen custard also looked good and I intend to try some the next time I go.

The burger-joint is an overall nice addition to Midtown. It may be a bit overhyped, but the casual and relaxed vibe of the restaurant will grow to be a nice place to unwind when the rest of the shops in the area open up this year.
