Best Buddies In Action

On April 27 Claire Rothschild (’14) placed her foot in the door for raising awareness about special needs children. Inspired by her interest in special needs, Rothschild founded the Best Buddies chapter at Robinson High school.

“It was fun to walk around and socialize with the children and other high school chapters,” said Rothschild.

Best Buddies is a popular club throughout Hillsborough County high schools.  Students are able to tutor the special needs children while gaining a better understanding of their mental or physical disabilities. The Robinson chapter has hosted a dance a party and an Easter egg hunt; members are now planning a cookie decorating party.

“It’s more of a social experience than an educational one,” commented Rothschild.

Rothschild encourages any qualified students who are interested in club to join and raise awareness of special needs children. Best Buddies also provides a great opportunity for IB students to gain CAS hours while helping other children in their community.

“My goal is to raise awareness and to help students gain acceptance while building friendships,” Rothschild said with smile.
