Insurgent: One Movie Can Transform You
March 23, 2015
Insurgent is based on a community where the people are categorized into one out of five factions based on their personality: Dauntless, Amity, Erudite, Candor or Abnegation. Tris Prior, formerly known as Beatrice, and Tobias Eaton, formerly known as Four, have just escaped from the Dauntless compound after a fight with Jeanine Matthews, the head of Erudite.
Throughout the movie, Jeanine and her army try to hunt down Tobias and Tris because they are Divergent, which means they do not fit into just one faction. The factionless people, who do not fit in anywhere, strive to build their own army to overthrow Jeanine.
Ever since I read the series last summer, I have been absolutely obsessed. With it being my favorite series, I had high expectations for the movie, especially since Divergent did not fail to please. The Insurgent cast did an extraordinary job at portraying the passion, fear, stress, and bravery that the characters experienced.
To make it better, I saw the movie in 3-D. Although many people think 3-D movies are overrated, I thought it was a thrilling close-up of the action-packed events.
No movie can represent a book as good as it was written, but Insurgent was pretty darn close. Despite my disappointment with the condensing of some scenes and the watered-down relationships, the movie refreshed the excitement that I felt while reading the book.
As the film progressed, there were numerous scenes that left me in shock because of the sudden turn of events. The fast-paced production kept me on the edge of my seat while constantly squeezing my best friend’s hand.
My favorite aspect of the movie was the relationship between Tris and Tobias, which becomes stronger as the two face new obstacles. Their utter love for each other completes the story and helps them get through anything.
This sequel to Divergent gives viewers a deeper insight into the unique, strong characters, as well as an understanding of this society ran by a corrupt leader. There is no doubt that this movie will leave you speechless – I certainly was.
