AROUND THE COUNTRY
Ole Miss/LSU – The third-ranked Ole Miss Rebels traveled to Tiger Stadium to take on 24th-ranked LSU. LSU’s Anthony Jennings found Logan Stokes for a 3-yard touchdown pass with 5:07 left in the fourth quarter to give LSU a 10-7 lead that they never relinquished. The Tigers’ upset win came just one night after the passing of Martha Miles, mother of head coach Les Miles.
Mississippi State/Kentucky – Mississippi State took the field on Saturday as the top-ranked team in the nation for the first time in school history. Kentucky hung in the game for the first three quarters, but a 73-yard touchdown run by Josh Robinson and a 61-yard kickoff return by Christian Holmes sealed the Bulldogs’ 45-31 victory in the fourth quarter.
USC/Utah – 19th-ranked Utah played host to 20th-ranked Southern California on Saturday night in an important Pac-12 matchup. Utah, trailing 21-17 with just over two minutes left in the game, drove 73 yards in 11 plays, capping the drive with the game-winning 1-yard touchdown pass from Travis Wilson to Kaelin Clay.
AROUND THE STATE
Miami (FL) – After a bye week, the Hurricanes picked up a 30-6 win over Virginia Tech on Thursday night. Running back Duke Johnson rushed for 249 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries to go along with his 37 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. Miami hosts North Carolina next week.
South Florida- A short week after their 38-30 comeback win at Tulsa left the Bulls reeling on Friday night as they fell 34-17 to Cincinnati on the road. Former Jefferson Dragon Andre Davis caught six passes for 77 yards and a touchdown. USF hosts Houston next week.
Central Florida- UCF remained unbeaten in American Athletic Conference play, taking down Temple by a score of 34-14. The win was the Knights’ sixth straight homecoming win and eleventh straight conference win. They travel to Connecticut for another conference game next week.
Florida Atlantic- The Owls fell victim to the undefeated Marshall Thundering Herd on Saturday, losing 35-16 on the road. Wide receiver Lucky Whitehead caught 11 passes for 102 yards. FAU hosts UAB next week.
Florida State- The undefeated Seminoles enjoyed a bye week this week after their thrilling win over Notre Dame last Saturday. They play at Louisville this Thursday.
Florida- The Gators had a much-needed bye week this week before they travel to Jacksonville for their rivalry matchup with Georgia this Saturday.
Florida International- FIU’s bye week is followed by a matchup with Rice at home this week.
