Volleyball Heads To States After Taking Down Lely

The hype is over. The game is over. But for the Robinson Lady Knights, the season rolls on.
In front of a packed Robinson gym on Saturday night , the Lady Knights defeated Lely in the regional finals by scores of 25-27, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-17. The win puts them into the state semifinals for the second straight season, but with a much younger team.
“It goes to show the impact last year’s players had on our current players. We are young but we are full of passion and determination,” coach Christen Garcia said of her team’s ability to reach states despite losing five seniors to graduation.
Catia Sleet (’16) finished with 18 kills, 14 digs and four blocks while McKenna Tyson (’17) totaled nine kills, 15 digs and three aces. Emily Draper (’17) was outstanding on the night, racking up 33 digs. Rebecca Hill (’16) led the team with 37 assists while also picking up 18 digs and six kills.
The Lady Knights will take on MaxPreps’ top-ranked team in the state of Florida, Bishop Kenny, on Thursday for the right to advance to the state title game. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. at Silver Spurs Arena (1875 Silver Spur Ln, Kissimmee, FL 34744).
