After earning their ninth win of the season on Tuesday against Sickles, the Knights got their 10th on Thursday with an 8-2 victory over Spoto.
Mitchel Chowning (’15) got the start for Robinson, fighting his way through a solid five and one-third innings while allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks. He struck out four en route to his third win of the year.
“I was able to fight through because I have my family, my team, behind me through everything,” said Chowning.
The Knights fell behind in the first but answered in the home half with five runs, coming on just three hits. The big hit in the inning came from Shawn McGory (’16), who delivered an RBI single to put his team up 3-1.
Though the Spartans picked up an unearned run in the third, the Knights came back with one in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a commanding 8-2 lead.
When Chowning departed with one out in the sixth, Luis Feliciano (’16) entered and recorded the final five outs without allowing a baserunner, collecting three strikeouts.
The win improves Robinson’s district record to 3-2 and overall record to 10-6. With six games remaining, the Knights are entering the season’s final stretch.
“We just need to stay aggressive [with our] hitting and play our game,” said Chowning.
Robinson will next travel to Alonso on Saturday for a game against the 2015 Saladino Tournament champions. First pitch is scheduled for 1.
