Both the JV and varsity flag football teams secured a win tonight against district opponent Gaither.

JV won 33-7, despite the loss of their starting quarterback Lauren King (’18) earlier in the season to injury. Sarah Rollins (’16), a varsity backup quarterback, and Olivia Salzman (’17), King’s backup on JV, both played quarterback. Gaither’s touchdown, in the second half of the game, was only the second time in three seasons that JV has been scored on, and their 25th straight win.

The varsity team, who have not lost a game since losing to Dr. Phillips in the state quarterfinals in 2013, continued their winning streak with a 55-0 shutout. The Knights dominated from early in the game, leading 41-0 at the half, but lost some of that momentum in the second half with 14 points scored. This was varsity’s 40th straight win over a Hillsborough County team.

With the wins, JV stands at 3-0 for the season and varsity 4-0. JV will play at Alonso tomorrow, March 31 at 6:15 p.m. Varsity will play at district rival Blake Thursday, April 2 at 7 p.m.
