For the first time since 1977 and the sixth time in school history, the Robinson Knights are regional champions.

Two hours from campus, the Knights (17-10) defeated the Sebring Blue Streaks (21-10) 10-0 in six innings, earning a spot in the Class 5A state semifinals.

“It’s just so cool to see the kids’ hard work pay off and them to keep playing good ball when it matters the most,” said head coach Kevin McCray.

Robinson took an early lead in the first inning when Killian McCray (’17) led off the game with a double to center and later scored on a groundout by Shawn Herron (’15).

That was all the support Tommy Craparo (’15) needed on the night as he tossed six shutout innings, allowing just six hits and one walk while striking out three.

“Pitching in a big game with a big atmosphere is great, but pitching in a big game with a big atmosphere and a big lead is even better,” said Craparo.

The Knights put up seven more runs in the third, one in the fourth and one in the sixth. They took advantage of eight Sebring errors on their way to the six-inning mercy rule victory. The offense was led by Jack White (’15), who went 3 for 4 with three singles and three RBIs.

“Especially in a game like this, it was important that we stay on the ball and just try to keep a compact swing up there,” said White.

McCray, after his double in the first, later singled in a run, finishing the game 2 for 4.

Robinson will face Archbishop McCarthy (27-6) next Friday for the right to advance to the state championship game. The game will be played at JetBlue Park (11500 Fenway South Dr. Fort Myers, FL 33913), the spring training home of the Boston Red Sox. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
