With less than 30 seconds left in Friday’s 5A-9 district championship game, the Lady Knights basketball team regained the lead over Spoto off an offensive rebound. Robinson had a 46-45 lead, and the Lady Knights’ bench erupted in cheers. Only seconds later, the Spartans took back possession and pushed down the court to sink the game-winning shot with less than one second to go on the clock.

Just like that, the Lady Knights’ quest for their first district title since 2013 ended, and the Spatans won their first district basketball title in school history.

“Honestly, we beat ourselves. I think we’re definitely a better team,” said head coach Stephanie Sweeney.”Spoto had a great fight.”

Chrisheena Rolack (’16) and Charlotte Tuohy (’17) led the game and the Lady Knights in scoring with 11 points each while Dejah Quick (’16) added another nine points.

“We’re really lucky because we still have another game” Sweeney said. “We have a lot of season ahead of us still.”

Robinson will move on to the regional quarterfinals next Thursday, Feb. 4 (date and opponent to be announced on FHSAA here).
