After making the Regional quarterfinals last season, Robinson’s girls basketball team is bringing in a lot of young players with hopes of another successful season.
“Our team is young but I feel like we have a lot of energy,” Sophia Guillermo (’21) said.
Five seniors from last season have moved on from high school, leaving gaps to fill in the roster that have been taken by younger players. This means that the team has had to bring in a few freshman to play for the varsity team
“The freshmen coming in this year are pretty good and, yeah, I think they’ll bring a lot to the team.” Guillermo said
With the number of new and young talent, the juniors and seniors on the team have had to bring them in and help them learn the system.
“They make it really easy for us to like adapt to it,” Kana Kosaka (’23) said.
It is a 20 game season, so the team does not feel that one game is more important than another.
“We are trying to just take it one game at a time so I haven’t really looked too far ahead.” Guard Emily Kemp (’20) said.
This is head coach Hannah Kotzen’s second year with the team, with a record of 19-5 and a district championship in her first season at the helm.
“I think now that she’s been here a year she knows us all much better and she knows how we work as a team.” Kemp said.
Robinson won their season opener against the Berkeley Prep Buccaneers 33-20. The Knights’ home opener against East Bay has been rescheduled to January 29.
